More exciting news for the Hortus Conclusus project: Swansea University’s College of Arts and Humanities has just agreed to fund a fees-only PhD scholarship to enable a doctoral candidate to be attached to the project. (http://www.swansea.ac.uk/postgraduate/scholarships/research/medieval-lit-hist-phd-pleasure-contemplation-cure.php). Starting as soon as possible, the successful candidate will work closely with the team, being co-supervised by Dr Roberta Magnani and myself within the Department of English Language and Literature, and also receiving regular input from both Theresa and Trish. The plan is for the doctoral thesis to focus on gendered representations of the walled garden in romance and other secular literature, as well as within iconographic and medieval manuscript contexts. The team is therefore very grateful to the College for its strong support of the project and we are very excited about having a new researcher join us so early on.
